Company Overview:

Northern Utah Rehabilitation Hospital is a 40-bed, Rehabilitation Hospital.  Our hospital provides rehabilitative services for patients with functional deficits as a result of debilitating illnesses, or injuries. Through our inpatient rehabilitation programs, we help patients recover quickly and return home with a renewed sense of self-sufficiency.

 

Position Overview:

Using ICD-10-CM standards, codes, and abstracts medical records for reimbursement purposes.  Responsible for assembling and maintaining patients’ health information in medical records and charts.  Ensures all forms are completed and properly identified and signed. 

 

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Determines the appropriate code with the International Classification of Disease-10th Revision-Clinical modification (ICD-10-CM); enters codes into billing software accordingly.
  • Review the entire medical record when applicable to assign the admitting, primary and secondary diagnosis to support medical necessity for all services performed.
  • Collaborates with medical records, medical transcription and hospital staff to improve the quality of medical record documentation.
  • Completes physician query forms in accordance with department policy.
  • Researches and/or locates un-coded charts on unbilled lists
  • Assists the Business Office with coding related questions, denials, and edits.
  • Participates in the government prospective payment system and ensures hospital adherence.
  • Works with the medical and hospital staff to ensure the timely completion of medical records.
  • Assembles and analyzes inpatient and outpatient medical records following hospital procedures.

 

Required Skills:

  • Two (2) years of medical coding experience in ICD-9/ICD-10 preferred
  • Medical Coding Certification preferred
  • Medical record experience in a hospital setting preferred
