Position description: 

Responsible for providing healthy food for patients, employees, and visitors. Prepares food ensuring that strict safety standards are followed. Creates menus and orders supplies when Food Service Manager is unavailable for the hospital kitchen and cafeteria. In the absence of the Food Service Manager, places and puts away food orders, supervises kitchen production and oversees the work of kitchen and dining room staff.

1. Follows established schedules in cooking, baking, sanitation.

2. Determines proper cooking time and temperature.

3. Cleans and sanitizes all food preparation equipment and ensures that it is kept in safe and operable condition.

4. Follows procedures in food cooling, hot food holding, and prevention of cross contamination. Follow all local and state health regulations.

5. Prepare meals according to specified menu and schedule with a minimum of waste.

6. Assists with orientating new employees and demonstrates work techniques and use of equipment; trains new cooks and update all cooks on changed / new cooking procedures.

Skills / Requirements

High School Diploma or the equivalent in education or experience required.

Food Handlers License required by state law.
