Job Description

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or LPN/LVN, performs delegated tasks and procedures of patient care, involving the physical, psychological, social, emotional, safety and security needs of the patient. The patient care technician actively participates in departmental activities and processes.

Essential Functions:

  • Prioritizes and delivers basic patient care, which may include toileting, bathing, linen and clothing changes, freshwater and ice, ambulating, comfort measures, and other patient needs.
  • Performs delegated procedures including obtaining and recording vital signs; measuring and recording intake and output; obtaining and recording weights; collecting specimens; and additional special procedures as directed.
  • Provides for nourishment and hydration with awareness of special diet and precautions including fluid restrictions and calorie counts.
  • Documents vital signs, measures and records intake and output, weights, etc.
  • Consults with RN/LPN/Therapist and other members of the interdisciplinary team for the delivery of patient care.
  • Appropriately responds to patient and family calls and requests promptly.
  • Assists in preparing unit, patients’ rooms, and patient beds for receiving patient admissions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of the department.


Skills / Requirements

Current CPR certification. Certification as a Nursing Assistant preferred.

One (1) year experience in a hospital setting preferred.
