Northern Utah Rehabilitation Hospital is a 40-bed, Rehabilitation Hospital.  Our facility, designed solely for the provision of specialized rehabilitative care, is the only freestanding rehabilitation hospital in Northern Utah. The facility’s unique design will foster a comfortable and responsive environment for our patients.

Our hospital provides rehabilitative services for patients with functional deficits as a result of debilitating illnesses, or injuries. Through our inpatient rehabilitation programs, we help patients recover quickly and return home with a renewed sense of self-sufficiency.

Position Overview:

The Physical Therapist evaluates a patient’s physical and functional capacities and plans, organizes, coordinates, and administers goal-directed, activity oriented treatment while exercising professional judgment, knowledge, and skills in managing treatment plans for the purpose of promoting/restoring optimum independence in daily life tasks and physical functions. The Physical Therapist ensures continuation of performance through effective education of the patient, family, support system, and home program, if applicable. The Physical Therapist supervises/provides physical therapy services to patients ranging in age from 14 to 100+  in an inpatient environment.  The Physical Therapist supervises supportive personnel and actively participates in departmental activities and processes.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performs patient assessment
  • Establishes plan of care and plans for discharge
  • Assesses the effectiveness of treatment and modifies treatment to achieve goals
  • Assesses educational needs of the patient, family, caregiver, or significant other and provides education to meet those needs.
  • Communicates with patient, family, caregivers, significant other and members of the healthcare team to promote maximum benefit of care.
  • Demonstrates appropriate application of age specific standards, policies and procedures and guidelines in caring for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Follows age specific standards of care during altered states of consciousness related to analgesia, conscious sedation or anesthesia.
  • Uses age specific standards, policies and procedures and guidelines to perform treatments and procedures that are routine for unit/clinic based on patient age.
  • Incorporates cultural and developmental needs into plan of care.
  • Demonstrates proficiency using the machines, tools, equipment and/or work aids appropriate for the position.

Required Skills:

  • Successful completion of a clinical training program. Rehabilitation/team experience preferred. Attend all mandatory hospital in-services. Able to bend and lift or assist in lifting with patients as in transfers or ambulation. Adequate physical strength to assist with resistive activities. Good general physical and mental health and emotional stability.  
  • Current licensure as a Physical Therapist in the State of Utah and current Basic Life Support/CPR card.
  • One (1) year of experience in the care of patients in a rehabilitation or acute care hospital setting preferred.
  • Able to communicate and understand oral and written instructions. Exercises initiative, responsibility and action in assigned activities.
  • Effectively uses leadership qualities, professional judgment and have a sense of professional development.
  • Demonstrates ability to understand the physical, mental, psychological, and social needs of patients and their families.
  • Able to work in collaboration with associates (team effort) to provide quality interdisciplinary patient care. Individual must posses and be able to demonstrate skills relative to the care of Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric patients.
