Job Summary:  Evaluates and treats patients with breathing disorders.  Assumes primary responsibility for all respiratory care treatments.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performs medically prescribed respiratory care procedures in accordance with physician’s orders, medical staff approved protocols, and clinical practice guidelines.
  • Assesses the patient's condition using professional judgment and in conference with patient’s physician. Evaluates appropriateness of therapy specifically in the treatment patients
  • Stands by and assists during special procedures and responds to critical situations.
  • Actively participates in patient rounds and team conferences as indicated. Participates in shift report, continuing educational programs offered, and mandatory in-services.
  • Maintains and cleans equipment as required. Setup, maintain and remove equipment from patient care areas.
  • Documents all procedures and patient education performed on all patients, including patients’ response to therapy and communicates patient tolerance or adverse response to physicians and applicable staff.
  • Communicates appropriate information to patient/family concerning respiratory care procedures.
  • Complies with quality control, safety, infection control and emergency procedures.
  • Completes monitoring and QA steps on sterilization etc. of equipment as required.

Required Skills:

  • Current Utah state license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Current CPR certification.
  • One (1) year recent experience in acute care setting preferred.
