The Speech Language Pathologist evaluates patient’s communication, cognition and swallowing abilities and plans, organizes, coordinates, and administers goal-directed, activity oriented treatment exercising professional judgment, knowledge, and skills in managing treatment plans for the purpose of promoting/restoring optimum independence in daily life tasks, and the achievement of maximum communication potential. The Speech Language Pathologist ensures continuation of performance through effective education of the patient, family, support system and home program, if applicable. These functions are carried out according to hospital policy in accordance with the mission and vision of the hospital and consistent with the philosophy of the department. The Speech Language Pathologist supervises/provides speech therapy services to patients ranging in age from 14 to 100+ in inpatient and/or outpatient environments. The Speech Language Pathologist supervises supportive personnel and actively participates in departmental activities and processes.

Minimum Work Experience

One (1) year of experience in the care of patients in rehabilitation hospital setting preferred.

Required Licenses/Certifications

  • Current State of Colorado license as a Speech Language Pathologist is required.
  • Current BLS/CPR required.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA or Clinical Fellowship Year status or equivalent is required.

Required Skills/Knowledge/Ability

  • Proficient use of appropriate forms in documenting care and medical necessity.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and care.
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical proficiency utilizing policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Knowledgeable about accreditation standards to ensure adherence to all standard set forth by the stat and accrediting agencies of TJC and CMS.
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions.
